My first large format exposure! :D

Pacemaker Speed Graphic + Kodak Eastman Aero Ektar 178mm f2.5 lens + Polaroid back and Fuji FP-100C instant film

4 second exposure at f16 without using the shutter on the camera. Start clock, remove dark slide, manually trigger an off camera speedlight, return dark slide.

I have had time to think of this technique since I purchased the camera a few weeks ago from the US online, The lens has no shutter but the body does have a shutter. The body has no flash sync port and I wanted to 'develop' a method to use this camera in the studio. The solution, focus the lens using model lights then turn of model lights so almost dark. Remove the dark slide to begin the exposure, fire a flash at the desired power, and return the dark slide to prevent further exposure. I didn't buy the famous Areo Ektar lens to stop down to f16 but I wanted to at least get this test shot in focus. I did critical focus the lens using a loupe on the ground glass also.

More coming soon! :)

B&W Conversion

Pacemaker Speed Graphic + Kodak Eastman Aero Ektar 178mm f2.5 lens @ f2.5 + Polaroid back and Fuji FP-100C instant film

I was away this weekend but wanted to do another test shot with my new Speed Graphic 4x5. When I got home tonight light levels were already too low for the ISO 100 speed FP100C instant film. Instead I used a 150W studio light monolight to light the subject. The test was 2-fold. (1) Bokeh wide open at f2.5 and (2) can I use it a 1/30 shutter speed without blur from the shutter slap. I used my bike as the subject and used a loupe to critical focus on the ground glass. This was the result. :) Looking very promising for my portraits! :)
