I took my nearly new 80-200/2.8 Nikkor lens out for the weekend. Probably not designed as a walkabout lens but I had it round my neck for 9 miles yesterday and 10 today walking with no problems. I used this lens for every photo I took to see what it could do so plenty of samples to come.

Very little PP, lens did well

Another shot from when lying on bin bags on the lawn with the camera wrapped camera in various plastic bags in the heavy drizzle. I was shooting blue tits mainly but then this confident partridge and his friend stopped less than a meter in front of me.

Shot with the old 80-200 PP Nikkor I returned

Taken with the 80-200/2.8 PP Nikkor I bought and then returned as faulty. I didn't have the usual 300mm reach so lay on the lawn for almost 2hrs on bin bags in the snow to get a little closer!

This is cropped to improve the composition.

As great as a new 80-200 sounded I ordered it and then later cancelled as too short for wildlife and long for portraits and too heavy to travel/ walk with so opted for an off the wall lens instead...
the lesser known Nikkor 105/2.8 dc! :)
