Leica Inspired London Street Photography
Today was a testing day for the little Panasonic Lumix G3. It is up against the Leica M9 and Nikon D800 yet costs the same as some of the Leica assessories.
First impressions.. the JPEGs really lack punch so although I am shooting JPEGs in monochrome mode I have to push them through LR3 to get something useable. The little Lumix G3 processor lacks contrast, sharpness and resolving power but I must bear in mind it's cost.
Here I paired the Lumix G3 + Voigtlander 15mm f4.5. The lens is super sharp so it will show what the camera sensor is capable of. Interestingly using the Leica M - M4/3 adapter the 15/4.5 focuses to infinity when set on 0.5M on camera. As you can imagine this is a street photography dream!!! Compact light sharp lens that is sharp wide open and on the G3 from approximately 1M to infinity. I had so much fun using this setup this morning. It was Leica inspired as I shot it how I would my Leica (composition and manual mode) but with the advantage I didn't need to worry about hyperfocal distance as long as not too close to me.
I just wish the resulting image quality was of higher standard. Here is the first of a series.
