An afternoon of dry lightning July 2 ignited a wildfire on the north side of the Tanana River, some 15-20 miles northwest of Tok. Firefighters and water dropping helicopters responded instantly, and this threat was quickly eliminated.
Kudos to all firefighters!

More than 3,000,000 acres have burned in Alaska to date this summer, the overwhelming majority of wildfires caused by dry lightning.

Recent weather pattern shifts have brought cooler weather including much needed rainfall, and most of the fires are no longer a threat.
