Not a great night for aurora, after the forecast indicated they might be quite active. If you'll notice, an iridium satellite flares briefly on the extreme left of the sky, just below the constellation Cassiopeia. Also another satellite shows faintly near the center of the sky.

I was quite surprised to see northern lights this dynamic, and through overcast skies as well. The aurora forecast was not that good, but I've learned today that strong solar winds reached Earth in the night.
The orange glow to the right of the frames is the glow through the overcast of five streetlights in the nearby village of Tok, Alaska USA.
The camera continued to take 380 still frames until the battery went dead in the cold.

Evening of March 26, 2017 in Tok, Alaska, USA.
Fairly uncommon colors for me to see in the aurora, maybe it's because it was early in the night (10 pm), or maybe it was because the aurora was brought on by solar winds from a big rift in the sun's atmosphere, rather than energy emitted from sunspots, coronal mass ejections.
Whatever the reason, the colors were a bit unusual.
This file is a compilation of 100 still shots, (15 seconds exposures, f2.8, ISO 1600, Tokina 11-16mm lens) The still shots were compiled in a GIF file, then converted to MP4 format.

Fairly active aurora over my house, and the night sky was also very busy with satellites. Near the end of this time-lapse, you will see a brief iridium satellite flaring brightly for an instant. A bit of magic in the night sky.
