Bluebells - Winchester

The other morning I set off to a ‘semi-secret’ woodland to see what the Bluebell situation
was. By semi-secret I don’t mean it’s only a few people who know about it just that it’s nowhere near as heaving as Micheldever Woods gets so this is one of those rare cases I’m not going to advertise where it’s from.

I’d been shooting a while and was just glancing up when I spotted the ‘sentry’ in the photo. Should I try and put the 100-400mm lens on my camera or stay with the 70-200mm. I had a feeling almost any movement and that would be it so decided to stay with the latter lens. Next problem was I realised after taking a photo my shutter speed was all wrong….grrrrr! Quick bump up of the ISO and down with the shutter speed and managed to get a couple of shots in before he high-tailed it into the distance.

So this is a sort of 2 for 1 shot in that you get wildlife and bluebells.

We went to see the cherry blossoms at Hakone Gardens in Saratoga, California. This Japanese garden has a very diverse flora, and looks different from month to month.

I took this shot with an ultrafast f/0.85 vintage X-ray lens made by JML Optical. The depth of field is very shallow at about 5 mm. This lens has a fixed focus distance, e.g. I have to focus with my feet, which can be challenging with the very shallow depth of field. The focus peaking feature of the Sony camera helps. The lens is always fully open since it has no diaphragm.

I processed a soft and a balanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Just speak into me and I will open up!

Another recent pleasant visit to Winterbourne Gardens.
And yet still not full of a variety of flowers springing up at the moment, as this is because we have no spring in the air here in the UK. Only chilly weather, with plenty of rain, frost and hardly any sunshine to bring out all Mother's Nature beauty.

I am hoping, with my fingers crossed for the month of May, that the weather will change and bring plenty of sunny days to warm us up and make us feel happy again.

Still, I was glad on this day I went, it was a sunny day for once, with no rain, but still cold, with a chill breeze in the air.

Ah, the famous British saying, "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes." Nowhere else in the world can you experience four seasons in a single day.

Many thanks for your comments and compliments from you here, my good flickr friends !!!

Just lazing and soaking up the midday sunshine and going quietly, with a quack, quack quack; No rain today!

At least they were not bothered too much, when we came close up to them. But still, they had their eyes on us... As to say, piss off and leave us to be!

I came across these two in Edgbaston Pool, which runs just at the back of Winterbourne Gardens.

Many thanks for your comments and compliments from you here, my good flickr friends !!!
