Located on the corner of 17th and Alberta in Northeast Portland the artwork was designed by artist Robin Corbo, and completed in 2006. Robin Corbo, a Portland State Master of Fine Arts graduate, is known around Portland for her public murals. Her mural for the Community Cycling Center was her first major project and was what truly established her as a muralist. Her motive when designing and creating this particular mural was to show "a group of happy diverse children riding bicycles in a safe and non-political manner.” The process of creating this mural inspired Corbo to take designing murals to the next level, thus providing the foundation for her future as a muralist.

You know, I have walked across almost every bridge in Portland but for some reason I felt extremely unsafe on this one. Maybe because traffic felt uncomfortably close or it could have been my fear of heights (It’s a tall bridge). Perhaps it was both with the inclusion of a high wind. After all, I felt exhausted and banged up due to that strong cold wind. Whatever the case my long trek across the Willamette River was worth the random attacks of panic I suffered. The view is breathtaking (sometimes literally) and I got some great shots.

Do not be deceived by all of the bright happy colors, this barbaric device was strategically designed by a sadist. It has been said that an extra minute, or two, can turn a simple ride of “amusement” into an experience of sheer madness (Actually, it was me who said that). It’s called the "Zipper” and I’ve been on it once. ONCE and never again! Not only did I arrive at the threshold of throwing a gigantic technicolor wad but, I lost all of the change out of my pockets, too. After the termination of my term of suffering I had to sit and chill for about 30 minutes. I forced myself to think of cold showers and it wasn’t even for a fun reason. The very thought of food turned the ignition switch of my gag reflex.

To all of my American friends and contacts here’s to a Happy Fourth Of July. Be back on Monday.

This is the Kelly Fountain located on 6th & Pine. I took my time when I was here shooting several sides and angles. I thought this version with the green and blue background was the best.

Happy Bokeh Wednesday, everyone.

A favorite lens in my quiver of glass is the Fisheye. It works especially well, I have found, with bridges. The Oregon City Bridge went through a major renovation and re-opened last fall, so, I felt a reunion between my favorite lens and one of my favorite bridges was long overdue. I really like the shadows this bridge casts. I thought the lens distorted the lines and curves nicely, too.
