Kız Kumu (Maiden Sand) is a very famous sandbank in the Marmaris region. The myth says a maiden had to cross this bay as her lover waited on the other side of the bay. She filled her skirt with sand and banked up the passage to reach him. The story has a sad ending since she ran out of sand and drowned in the middle of the bay.

Bayırköy is a small village south of Marmaris. It's main attraction is a 2000 year old tree located directly in the center. It's surrounded by some small shops like this one, where you can buy local goods like honey and painted pumpkins. Prices are reasonable but it's always worth to negotiate!
