User / El Kite Pics / Pigeon Point Lighthouse - the Lantern Room
Dave W. / 888 items
The lantern room atop scenic and historic Pigeon Point Lighthouse.

This lantern room once contained a First Order Fresnel lens (one of the big mothers). The lens is now housed in the old fog signal building in the lower-left corner of this pic.

Pigeon Point Lighthouse stands tall and proud on the Central California Coast.

At 115 feet tall, Pigeon Point Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse on the West Coast (tied with Point Arena Lighthouse) and has served as an active aid to maritime navigation since its First Order Fresnel lens was lit in 1872.

Pigeon Point is named for the clipper ship Carrier Pigeon, which went down after hitting these rocks in 1853.

I used a KITE to fly the camera.
