A very rare visitor to Alberta. After much deliberation in the birding community, it was determined that this is a Purple Sandpiper. Apparently, this is the first ever record of this shorebird being seen in Alberta. A friend of mine spotted this bird the day before and reported it. I can't add it to my list of official Alberta birds, but I can add it to my list of "others".
