I remember this first night and being in the water photographing this Loon as well as a Red-Necked Grebe pair.

It was chilly that first evening and I was a lil under dressed for the outing, not to mention being excited.

I recall being in that water and shivering like I had never shivered before, I think it was more excitement than cold though.

This Loon and the Grebe were high on my list and to have them both that first evening and within minutes of each other was pure awesomeness.

Sometimes I get soooo amped up the adrenaline rush makes me shiver.

Im thankful we had great light and some shutter speed, otherwise these might have been in the Recycle Bin.

Also wish I was thinking and placed the background above his head and kept the entire bird on the blue water, maybe next time, until then, I'm tickled to have such a beautiful bird in my files...

Returned last week from Barrow where I joined Matthew Studebaker for a week in Alaska's Northern most region of the Tundra located within the Arctic Circle along the Arctic Ocean.

Several of us had gotten in the water low Chest high for this Pacific Loon turning its egg encounter, She was resting calmly and we never disturbed her in any way. She was totally at ease with our presence.

This was around 1:45 Am in some sweet morning Arctic light.

This Loon was spotted earlier in the trip in harsher light and strong winds, We all wanted to return in late evening light to better maximize the opportunity even though it was a bit of a hike.

We had gotten in the water and slowly eased into position, Never disturbing the nesting parent or its mate nearby, they were totally at ease with us.

between waist and chest high we were able to capture many images of this gorgeous Loon in its natural environment.

This was the first images we captured of this Pacific Loon on nest. This was taken when we first approached her late in the evening.

Shortly after is when she stood up rotated her eggs then laid back down in a less slightly less desirable position.
