During the night the world was spinning!
My third attempt at star trails kind of worked. I don't know whether a negative film may have produced better colours. Nevertheless, I now know in which direction to point the camera next year.

Camera: Nikon FM2
Lens: Nikkor 24mm f2
Film: Fuji Provia 100F
Exposure time: approx. 8 hours
Scanned from print
Centred around South Star.

Edit:
Provia 100F apparently is quite a good film for star trails.
The pink colour is due to reciprocity failure of this film.

Please read

This is one of my best shots in my flickr photostream and I would appreciate if it remains on flickr and not be shared in blogs, etc. even with 'credit'. Recently, I found it on a blog, almost butchered to death in photoshop and without 'credit', but still recognizable as my photo. The blog was shut down within half an hour.

It is not about me, it is about protecting and respecting the creative work of photographers, being professional or amateur photographers, and any other work .

This is my favourite shot of this photo weekend course.

I also just realised (almost four weeks later) that I inadvertently chose a similar spot to set up my tripod that Richard White chose for his shot of Cope Hut. Feel bad about this and did not mean to copy. It just looked right to me from this position with that beautiful snow gum on the right. The conditions on this day were just magic; From a blue sky the previous day to this over night!

(The colours seem to be a bit 'off' on my screen, especially those on the tree trunk)

Star Trail on negative film
During the night, the world was spinning! :)

Film: Fuji Superia 400
Camera: Nikon FM3A
Lens: Nikkor 24mm f2
Exposure time: 4 1/2 hours, f 11; (9:00pm - 1:30am)
Location: Southern Hemisphere
Orientation: due south, towards Southern Cross

This scan comes straight from the lab scan without any colour adjustments. 400 is a bit too grainy for my liking and I prefer Fuji Provia 100F or Velvia 50. Although, other people had good results with ISO400. So, not sure whether it was me or the scan causing the grain.

- The chocolate coating on the first lot was too thick.
So, we ate the Lamingtons as quickly as possible in order to make a second lot.

- The second lot looked nice and golden in the oven.
Alas,
I forgot to add baking powder and the slab of cake was almost rock hard. I suppose, I could have kept them as teeth shattering cookies, but thought they were less trouble in the bin.

- This, the third lot, looked and tasted just right.
For this lot, I changed the chocolate coating from water, cocoa powder and icing sugar, to about 150mL of milk, 200g good dark chocolate, icing sugar and some hot water to make it a bit more runny. This worked well and appears to be less sweet.

Be it as it may, Lamingtons are a favourite of many Aussies and always a hit on election and other days.
