It is customery for many years that taking Lord Vinayakar into the sea for immersion on the 3rd day or 5th day of Vinayaka Chathurthi. Idol is made of clay and completely environment friendly. This is one of the great events in Chennai. Wonderful theory of cycle of creation and destruction.
On the day of immersion, giant size clay idols of Vinayaka are lifted by big cranes and grounded in the Bay of Bengal for immersion.

As a part of Vinayakar Chaturthi, idol of Pillaiyar is being taken by trolleys to Bay of Bengal for immersion.
As per scriptures and traditions clay idols are to be worshipped and immersed in water bodies on 3rd or 5th day after worshipping.. Police had done commendable work in regulating the huge crowd and warning public in entering into the sea.
