It is about 64 kms from Rameswaram and 12 kms from Ramanathapuram. As per Hindu legend, Rama is believed to done penance to worship the god of ocean to seek way to Sri Lanka in grass, giving the name Dharbasayanam to the place. As per another legend, Dasaratha, the father of Rama, performed different sacrifices and did a lot of penance to obtain the sacred payasam(sweet pudding). He offered it equally to his three wives, resulting in the birth of Rama, Lakshmana, Bharatha and Shatrughna. The temple has a five-tiered rajagopuram (gateway tower) facing east. The shrine of Adi Jagannatha houses the image of Adi Jagannatha, Bhudevi and Sri Devi in sitting posture. The consort of Adi Jagannathar is Padmasini, housed in a separate shrine. There is a shrine for Dharbasayana Ramar in a reclining posture. The temple is revered in 20 verses of Thirumangai Azhwar in his Periya Thirumozhi in Nalayira Divya Prabandham. The epic is also described by Kambar in his work Kamba Ramayanam

Thai Pongal (Tamil: தைப்பொங்கல்) is a harvest festival celebrated by Tamils all over the world. This South Indian festival, Thai Pongal, is timed by an astronomical event - the winter solstice. Pongal is traditionally dedicated to the Sun God Surya, and marks the beginning of the northward journey of the Sun from its southernmost. Tamilians decorate their homes with banana and mango leaves and embellish the floor with decorative patterns drawn using rice flour.
Thai refers to the name of the tenth month in the Tamil calender, Thai (தை). Pongal in Tamil generally refers to festivity; more specifically Pongal means "boiling over" or "spill over". The boiling over of milk in the clay pot symbolizes material abundance for the household. Pongal is also the name of a sweetened dish of rice boiled with lentils which is ritually consumed on this day. Symbolically, Pongal signifies the warming i.e. boiling of the season as the Sun travels northward towards the equinox.- Wiki
Pongal greetings to all.

Benaras is older than history, older than tradition, even older than legend and looks twice as old as all of them, put together - Mark Twain
Varanasi called kashi in scriptures, said to be the OLDEST LIVING CITY IN THE WORLD with a history that goes back to some three thousand years. The combination of Kashi - the holy city, Ganga - the celestial river and Siva - the supreme god, makes Varanasi an immortal destination
Varanasi is city of temples, ghats(river fronts) and galis (narrow lanes). The serpentine narrow lanes of this city mirror the typical lifestyle of the inhabitants. In fact some of the great temples are in the lanes only. Few temples to visit here are Vishwanath temple, Annapoorna temple, Visalakshi temple ( of Nattukottai Chettiars), Durga temple, Tulsi Mnas temple, Kala Bhairav temple,Hanuman temple,Bharat Mata temple, new Vishwanath temple in the premises of Hindu Benaras University , Kedaraeeswar Temple (under Thirupanathal of Tamilnadu control) and Sri Kumaraswamy Mutt established by Kumara Guruparar of Tamil Nadu.
The name Varanasi has its origin possibly from the names of the two rivers Varuna and Assi, for the old city lies in the north shores of the Ganga bounded by its two tributaries, the Varuna and the Asi, with the Ganges being to its south.
Hundred and hundreds of people are performing rituals in the early morning at Dasaswamedh ghat at Varanasi, India
Varanasi, India is known for its ghats situated on the River Ganges. There are a lot of religious activities in the ghats in the morning and in the evening. There are 64 ghats there. Harischandra ghat,Assi ghat, Manikarnika ghat and Dasaswathamedh ghats are more important. Thousands of visitors assemble at Dasaswathamedh ghat to witness morning prayers and evening Aarthi. It is a life time experience.

On the second weekend each May, people around the world celebrate World Migratory Bird Day It is a global event.
World Migratory Bird Day was initiated in 2006 and is an annual awareness-raising campaign highlighting the need for the protection of migratory birds and their habitats. World Migratory Bird Day is jointly organized by the Secretariats of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) and the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) – two international wildlife treaties administered by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) – and a growing number of partners. This year’s campaign is financially supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). Migratory birds travel huge distances along their migration routes, sometimes even tens of thousands of kilometres.
This year’s World Migratory Bird Day theme “Networking for migratory birds” highlights the importance of networks of sites for migratory birds along their migration routes. These connected sites act like ‘stepping stones’ birds use to migrate and are important for resting, feeding, breeding and wintering.-UNESCO.ORG
