On the Tropic of Cancer lies the quaint town of Purbasthali, in Burdwan, West Bengal. It is 120 kms north from Kolkata. Also known as Chupi Char, Purbasthali lies on the banks of a large oxbow lake created by the river Ganges.
What strikes you about the place is the variety of waterfowls and the spectacle of hundreds of them taking their wings as your boat approaches. The birds, however, settle down quickly a short distance away .
This 2-3 kms long lake attracts lots of migratory birds during the winters and this is what that makes Purbasthali a hotspot among birders/bird photographers.
