The conservation of endangered Olive Ridley sea turtles and their habitat along the Chennai coast .
Olive Ridley sea turtles use a wide range of habitats (sandy beaches, coral reefs, sea grass beds, mangroves etc.), thus playing a critical role for the conservation of the oceans' ecosystems and diversity. Many of these habitats face mounting threats today.
A voluntary group called , The Students Sea Turtle Conservation Network (SSTCN) mainly comprising students is trying to conserve and create awareness about the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtle [Lepidochelys Olivacea] along coastal areas of Chennai, from Neelankarai to Besant Nagar. During nights they walk and collect eggs and relocate them to a safe place. When hachlings emerge after 45 days release them safely into the sea. Wonderful service.
