Aiyarappar temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in the village of Tiruvaiyaru, Tamil Nadu, India.The temple is incarnated by the hymns of Thevaram and is classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam. Thiruvaiyaru means Five Rivers around the city. The Five Rivers are Arisilaaru, Vennaaru, Vettaaru, Kudamuruttiyaaru and Kaaviriyaaru.
The temple is located in Tiruvaiyaru(also spelt as Tiruvaiyaru) (Tamil: திருவையாறு), a panchayat town in Thanjavur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is situated on the banks of the river Kaveri, 13 km from Thanjavur, Thiruvaaiyaru has an old Shiva temple dedicated to Panchanatheeswar.
Appar, one of the important Nayanmar, was closely associated with this shrine and dedicated one of the songs in 'Thevaram' to this temple.
This holy place is considered the chief among the Saptha Sthana Sthalas. The seven places are Thiruvaiyaru, Thirupazhanam, Thiruchottuthurai, Thiruvadikkudi, Thirukandiyur, Thiruppunthurai and Thiruneithanam.

Thiruvaiyaru temple-அருள்மிகு ஐயாறப்பன் திருக்கோயில்
There are 275 Padal Petra Sthalangal (glorified by Thevara Moovar namely Gnana Sambandhar, Appar and Sundarar) dedicated to Lord Siva in Tamil Nadu. These temples are very ancient and culturally and architecturally rich . Among these temples there are certain classifications based on tradition,religious myths and miracles. These are called as Nava Graha Temples, Saptha Vidangar Temples, Saptha Sthana Sthalangal, Ashta Veeratana Sthalangal, Pancha Boodha temples so on.
This series is about Saptha Sthana Sthalangal situated and centred around Thiruvaiyaru. Saptha Sthana sthalangal temples are closely associated to the celestial wedding of Lord Nandikeshwara (Shiva’s foremost attendant, Nandi) with the daughter of Sage Vyagrapadha. As Lord Panchanatheeswara of Thiruvaiyaru along with Dharmasamvardhani decorated in a Palanquin visits the other six places to introduce the newly wedded couple, Nandhikeswara and Suyasambika, the deities of the six places welcome Him and join Him in the procession and go upto Thiruneithaanam(Thillai sthanam) and return to their respective places on the next day
The sapthasthanam festival is conducted at Tiruvaiyaru during April every year. Hundreds of people witness the convergence of seven glass palanquins carrying principal deities of respective temples from seven places at Tiruvaiyaru. The palanquins are paraded near the car stand, the crowd witnessed the Poochorithal (flower festival) in which a doll offers flowers to the principal deities in the palanquins. After the Poochorithal, the palanquins left for their respective places. The seven temples are: 1 .Aiyarappar temple, Thiruvaiyaru,2. Apathsahayar Temple Tirupazhanam, 3 . Odhanavaneswarar Temple , Tiruchotruthurai, 5. Vedapuriswarar Temple, ThiruVedidhikudi 5. Kandeeswarar Temple, Thiru Kandiyur. 6. Puvananathar Temple, 7. Thiru Poonthuruthi and Neyyadiappar Temple, Thiru Neithanam.

Brahma Sira Kandeeswarar Temple .

Tirukkandiyur, is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located near Tiruvaiyaru, Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is incarnated by the hymns of Thirugnana Sambandar and is classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam. It is the fifth of the seven Saptha Sthana Sthalangal of Aiyarappar temple at Tiruvaiyaru. It is noted for the sculptures in Chola style. It is one of Asta Veerattana Sthalam too. This is the temple where Shiva curbed the ego of Brahma by cutting off his fifth head.

The Palanquin festival of Kandiyur is a famous one and draws huge crowds from nearby villages. As Lord Panchanatheeswara of Thiruvaiyaru along with Dharmasamvardhani decorated in a Palanquin visits the other six places to introduce the newly wedded couple, Nandhikeswara and Suyasambika, the deities of the six places welcome Him and join Him in the procession and go upto Thiruneithaanam(Thillai sthanam) and return to their respective places on the next day.
