It is customery for many years that taking Lord Vinayakar into the sea for immersion on the 3rd day or 5th day of Vinayaka Chathurthi. Idol is made of clay and completely environment friendly. This is one of the great events in Chennai. Wonderful theory of cycle of creation and destruction.
On the day of immersion, giant size clay idols of Vinayaka are lifted by big cranes and grounded in the Bay of Bengal for immersion.
