Uthirakosamangai ( உத்திரகோசமங்கை) is a saivite temple closely associated with saint Manickavasagar (மாணிக்கவாசகர் ) ,one of great Nalvars. It is situated 15 kms away from Ramanathapuram and 72 kms from Rameswaram. There is a 6 ft (1.8 m) tall ancient maragatha Nataraja idol ( மரகதத் திருமேனி) carved out of emerald inside the temple. This statue remains covered with sandal paste throughout the year except one day that is Arudhra darshan day . Uthirakosamangai witnesses the congregation of thousands of followers on that day . The temple has a seven-tiered rajagopuram (gateway tower). There are separate shrines for Mangalanathar (Shiva) in the form of lingam and Mangalambigai.
The meaning of Uthira kosa mangai is

Devipattinam Nava Bhasana Temple-தேவிப்பட்டினம் நவபாஷனக் கோவில்

The sea here is very calm and quiet and the atmosphere is very serene. About hundred yards inside the sea are the nine withered blocks of stone, supposed to be the Navagrahas, the nine planets. The legend of Devipattinam is that when Lord Rama was proceeding towards Lanka in search of his wife Sita, Devi Mahishasuramardini; (the killer of the demon Mahishasura) appeared in his dream. She told Rama that he was suffering misfortune due to the adverse planetary conditions. She directed him to come to Devipattinam and worship the Navagrahas to get relief from his misery.
When Rama came to Devipattinam he did not find any shrine dedicated to the Navagrahas. He made the statues of nine planets, locally known as Navapashanas, out of the sand of the ocean. It is believed that when Rama was creating the Navapashanas, Lord Jagannatha stopped the waves of the ocean so that Rama could carry out the worship undisturbed. Hence, Lord Jagannatha is also known here as 'Kadaladaitha Perumal'. After worshipping the Navagrahas, Rama went to Thirupullani. There he built the bridge (sethu) with the help of the Vanaras (monkeys) to go to Lanka. He conquered Lanka, killed Ravana and retrieved Sita from the Ashoka garden. After crossing the ocean, he once again arrived in Rameshwaram.
The unique thing about Devipattinam is that it is the only place in the world where the Navagrahas are located inside the sea

Thirupullani Temple அருள்மிகு ஆதிஜெகநாதர் திருக்கோயில், திருப்புல்லாணி

Thirupullani is one of the 108 Divyadesam dedicated to Vishnu, who is worshipped as Adi Jagannatha and his consort Lakshmi as Padmasini. It is about 64 kms from Rameswaram and 12 kms from Ramanathapuram. As per Hindu legend, Rama is believed to done penance to worship the god of ocean to seek way to Sri Lanka in grass, giving the name Dharbasayanam to the place. As per another legend, Dasaratha, the father of Rama, performed different sacrifices and did a lot of penance to obtain the sacred payasam(sweet pudding). He offered it equally to his three wives, resulting in the birth of Rama, Lakshmana, Bharatha and Shatrughna. Following the legend, childless couple perform a worship called nagapradishta (installing a statue of snake god) in the temple
The temple has a five-tiered rajagopuram (gateway tower) facing east. The shrine of Adi Jagannatha houses the image of Adi Jagannatha, Bhudevi and Sri Devi in sitting posture. The consort of Adi Jagannathar is Padmasini, housed in a separate shrine. There is a shrine for Dharbasayana Ramar in a reclining posture. The temple is revered in 20 verses of Thirumangai Azhwar in his Periya Thirumozhi in Nalayira Divya Prabandham. The epic is also described by Kambar in his work Kamba Ramayanam
