Fragrant Winter-Hazel
We had such a great time visiting the Arboretum today. The weather was gorgeous, we walked about 4 miles and actually got to see the Bald Eagles that are nesting there (they just had 2 hatchlings in the last week).
I have never seen this stunning yellow blossom before. It was one of many flowering shrubs we saw today. Seen in the Asian Collection.

The columns in the background were originally part of the US Capitol's East Portico, but they had to be removed when an addition was built in 1958. They were installed here in 1984.

One of the reasons for our trip to the NA was to hopefully see the Bald Eagles that are nesting in this tall Poplar tree. The adult pair have nested here for two years now, and they just recently had two eaglets hatch while all could watch on the 24/7 EagleCam. We stood in this spot for 30-40 minutes, knowing the male was out fishing and hoped he'd come back while we were there. He suddenly appeared & both adults flew around for a bit. I was more interesting in watching than photographing, but did mange to get this one blurry image. The bottom shot is of the video screen in the VC that runs non stop. I've attached the link to the feed if you want to see it for yourself. It's very cool!

you can't tell from this angle, but there is a large DC road between the Arboretum fence and the cemetery
