After crossing the Potomac just outside Leesburg VA, we visited this lesser known Civil War site.
It was the scene of a decisive Union defeat in October of 1861. The regional park does a nice job of preserving the site of this conflict. To find this wooded park you drive through a nice surburban neighborhood and take a spur off the culdesac, a beautiful buffer between the houses & the river.
This gate is to the National Cemetery where 54 soldiers (53 unknown identity) were buried in 1865.
