Cong. Beth Hakneses Hachodosh, though its name means "the new synagogue," was founded in 1885 and is the oldest surviving Orthodox Jewish congregation in the Rochester area. The building, originally a Methodist church, dates from the 1920's and is apparently the oldest purpose-built house of worship in the Town of Brighton. The congregation acquired the building in the 1960's.
