A number of old street lamps with concrete columns survived in the Tunstall area of Sunderland into the millennium. These examples were seen in Loughborough Avenue in May 2004. Shortly after this photo was taken, this area had new street lighting installed.

There were still a few of these old street lights with concrete columns surviving on Queen Alexandra Road, in the Grangetown area of Sunderland up until the end of 2004/early 2005. This view dates from May 2004.

Old street light survivors from the past seen at the junction of 'The Quadrant' and Moor Terrace, Hendon, Sunderland, in August 2004. New street lighting was installed in the area about a year later.

When photographed in June 2005, these two old street lamps with concrete columns in Nookside, Sunderland, were amongst the very last examples of this design to survive in the city. By the end of 2005 they had gone, being replaced by new street lighting.
