This photo catches the "wink" the moment before totality. There are two crescent slivers, in the image, these are reflections through the camera lens. The one above the sun shows the sliver of sun in the right position. The moon filled the sun from top left to bottom right. Big Hole Basin, Idaho.

North America's newest species. Endemic to Idaho. After viewing the total eclipse in eastern Idaho, we visited Bostetter Campground in the remote South Hills of southern Idaho and were lucky to find several of the crossbills on our return back to California. The calls are quite different (can be heard in the video) and ecologically these birds are distinct. Check out he great write up in Idaho Birds. idahobirds.net/birding-idaho/cassia-crossbill/

Three of us from the Museum of Wildlife and Fish Biology at UC Davis traveled to, and camped in, the Big Hole Mountains in Eastern Idaho (not far from Jackson Hole, Wyoming) to view the eclipse. This photo better illustrates the sky color during totality. The sky started to dim at about 50% totality. The images still does not capture the grandeur of the event. Photo is a bit coarse taken with cell phone camera!
