From 1985 expedition to Mount Dayman. From scanned slide. In the little town of Agaun, where we were dropped off by plane. These are some of the village children who were just as interested in me as I them. Photo from Feb 1985.

One of New Guinea's most venomous snakes, this elapid was uncommon in the mountains where we worked. This photo was taken on Mt. Menawa, Bewani Mountains during an encounter we had in September 1986. Digitized from a color slide.

At the time of this photo this was only the third time Western Zoologists had seen this rarely encountered marsupial-mouse. The previous encounter was in the 1930s. An insectivore, it is known only from the extreme southeastern mountains on the tail of New Guinea. This photo was taken in February 1985 on the slopes of Mount Dayman. It was a young male, but they do not get much larger.
