Bosa is a small town in north-west Sardinia which lies by the river Temo at short distance from the sea. Its origins date back to Phoenician and Roman times and during middle age it became an important commercial harbour and a centre of production of leather hides. Recently has become a tourist destination thanks to its lovely beaches and its castle of 1200.

Bosa è una cittadina della Sardegna nord occidentale, situata sulle rive del fiume Temo a pochi chilometri dal mare. Le sue origini datano all’epoca punica e quindi romana, e divenne una importante porto commerciale e centro di produzione di pellame nel medioevo. Oggigiorno è diventata una meta turistica grazie alle sue spiagge e al suo castello.
Gli abitanti di Bosa godono di una immeritata fama di saggi in Sardegna, infatti tradizionalmente si usa dire: "Fai come fanno a Bosa, quando piove lasciano piovere".

Bosa is a small town in north-west Sardinia which lies by the river Temo at few distance from the sea (see map at right). Recently has become a tourist attractions thanks to its lovely beach. On top of the hill you can see the castle built around 1200.

The tower was built in the first half of XVI century in a small islet at the mouth of the river Temo, and protected the anchorage of the commercial vessels which at that time could not enter anymore the river and reach the medieval port of Bosa which was obstructed. Bosa (in north-west Sardinia) was an important commercial city since medieval times and was subjected to the raids of the Moors. The tower continued to be operative until 1846.

Situata su un’isoletta alla foce del fiume Temo la torre costituiva nel ‘500 una valida difesa per i vascelli commerciali che ormeggiavano nei pressi, essendo ormai irraggiungibile il porto medievale di Bosa. Assolse funzioni doganali, sanitarie e di guardia del porto, con autorizzazione alla riscossione dei diritti di ancoraggio. Era in contatto ottico con le torri Argenitna e Columbargia, il Castello Serravalle e la guardia di Capo Marrargiu.
La Torre fu edificata nella prima metà del XVI secolo e rimase attiva sino al 1846.

This is the same place of my previous photo. Actually the tower is at my back (see map at right). Here we can see the entrance of the river mouth which leads to the city of Bosa few km upstream. The river was used as a port since ancient times and today there is a modern Marina for yachts.

Ho pensato che forse poteva interessare vedere la foce del fiume Temo a Bosa Marina, dato che ho pubblicato precedentemente la foto della Torre situata proprio qui (si trova alle mie spalle). Il fiume è navigabile per piccole inbarcazioni sino alla città di Bosa situata a qualche chilometro a monte.
