You can swim in the lake but no closer than the barrier. My family reported that the undertow is huge, even that far away.

The Krka National Park in Croatia is a spectacular place and they have a large area at the edge with good access for fit tourists. The waters come from a large lake and river system and flow through the forest amongst the vegetation, through the trees. Think mini Iguazú.
