The Hindu Festival of Lights, also celebrated by other Indian religions, symbolises the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance".
What a wonderful, uplifting sentiment to celebrate and live by.
This display only lasted 5 minutes and was more about colour than ear shattering explosions.
Truly wonderful to witness for its grace, elegance and beauty.
The people of Portsmouth and the surrounding areas were treated to a wonderful and tasteful display.

I saw this recipe and just had to try it today.
I would never have thought of using blackberries with chicken but they work superbly together.
New potatoes, shallots, thyme and green beans complete the meal.

Dyed orchid roots.
Professional growers inject dye into the stems of white orchids to create colours not found in Nature.
The dye leaves a tell tale stain on the stems and roots.
This orchid had striking multi-coloured flowers.
The flowers died back naturally and now, a few months later new shoots are appearing.
It is likely to revert to its original colour now, so I will be very curious to see what appears.
