Locomotive, HC.1727/1941, “R.O.F. 16, No.1”, is seen here, at Ministry of Fuel and Power, Wath and Elsecar Disposal Point, Brampton, near Wath, on 17/03/1963.

The Ministry of Fuel and Power, Wath and Elsecar Disposal Point, Brampton, near Wath, was served by railway sidings, situated on the North-Western side of the former, Great Central Railway, Elsecar Branch, immediately West of that line’s junction with the Wath to Barnsley railway line. The facility was opened by the Ministry of Fuel and Power, in 1947, and latterly, operated under contract, by William Pepper and Company Ltd, until closure, in 1968.

This locomotive was built by Hudswell, Clarke and Company Limited, Leeds, to Works No.1727, in 1941, for the War Department. Although its full history has not been completely researched, it is known that the locomotive was acquired by the Ministry of Fuel and Power, from the Royal Ordnance Factory, Elstow, Bedfordshire, by way of Cox and Danks Ltd, dealers, of Bedford, in June 1961. On 31/10/1964, the locomotive was transferred from Wath and Elsecar Disposal Point, to British Oak Disposal Point, Crigglestone, West Yorkshire.
