During another trip to the bay area, I decided to camp at a few places along the way. One of the stops was the Trona Pinnacles just off Highway 395. I drove my Subaru STi to the pinnacles on a dirt road lit by a little moon light for a few miles and found a spot to set up. After setting up my Poler tent, I ran around with a few cameras to set up for some Star Trails. This was shot with my Tokina 11-16mm on a 7D. I stacked 130 1-minute exposures in Photoshop to gain the final result.
Oddly enough, this was my first star trail without any sort of air traffic that I had to edit out in post.

Oh My God... The most intense thing to happen to me on Palomar mountain ever... maybe ever in my life... He is flying there... not landing, hovering 10 feet off the ground less than 50 feet away from the motorcycle and I...
The Helicopter is some of the recent intimidation tactics used by the local law enforcement to keep the motorcycles in check.

Went down to La Jolla with Belinda of Pinky's Pix today. We have been down there a few times, but this time, I brought my welding glass filter to try out some long exposure stuff.
This is one of my new favorite photos. I love the way it came out... in addition to it being the first time I tried the welding glass filter on a 24-70 (it was also stacked with a CPL) that was mounted to a 7D. Every time I get to use this camera it makes me want one more and more.
The title of image fits for the trip. I had just been done complaining about a family that had migrated from their gathering area to where I was just setting up my shots. Later, while we were down by the cove, a group of foreigners decided to stand 2 feet in front of Belinda as she was shooting. I am used to people walking through shots, that's something you can't fight, but its absolutely rude and inconsiderate to step directly in front of someone and stop to take your own photos. Seems like life is just full of intrusions lately.

Tried out a new piece of DIY equipment today. Went down to the Oceanside Pier to try some long exposures using a piece of 10 shade welding glass glued to a step up ring.
