We are in the upper reaches of the Cataract Gorge near Launceston Tasmania. The rocks here date back to the Jurassic period (160 million years ago). The only indication there is some sort of city nearby is the powerlines that cross the river in the background. Before the Trevallyn Dam was built in 1955, the waters flowed freely and flooding was frequent.
