Here in Norway, it is said that Norwegians are born with skis on our feet. I have never been able to imagine a baby lying in the cradle, with small ski-feet bouncing. Can you?😂

Well, to tell the truth, that expression has been strengthened by all our national athletes who have brought home many, many medals in winter sports over many decades.

Here in Norway, loud screams are often heard, some roaring and even strong men can be seen crying when it comes to football matches or winter sports. If you like the peace of mind, then you wisely keep your mouth shut other than with support when football matches are played, or 5-miles on cross-country skis go towards the end.⛷😂😊

Sometimes I have wondered if we are affected by delirium during certain Championships because that is when Norwegians click completely. Then come many strange words and expressions, movements and incantations. Believe it or not, we pray to God and swear at the same time. Sometimes I wonder if competitions are so good for health ...😂😳😜

As the daughter of a professional athlete, I grew up with a father who either had his ear glued to his Pioneer radio, or demanded absolute silence when the big championships went off the stack on our black & white TV screen. No one is a bigger expert than the audience, that's just the way it is.😎😊

I got early skis on my little feet, although I do not remember any baby bottle and ski lubrication together. Dad placed me between his legs, holding me steady as we rushed down the slopes. Sometimes the ski trips were tiring, especially when the wrong lubrication was used under the skis. Then it could draft with snow, so I could walk easily uphill, and "walk" also downhill.😳😜

But, winter is so much more of an experience than just skiing. I loved sledging down the slopes with either a wooden sledge or a sledge board. We also had advanced sledges with a steering wheel, and we had a kick sledge. We jumped on skis, we slalomed, we had horses that took us on sleigh rides and we built snow caves. As children, snowball fights were very popular and most children also have painful memories from when they stuck their tongues in frozen metal railings and their tongues got stuck. The latter is done only once.⛷❄😳

Mom was always afraid that I would get sick. She wrapped me in so many clothes, that if I fell, well, then I would not get up again. Then I lay there in the bubble suit with arms and legs out, hoping someone would lift me up ... Eventually, I made movements with arms and legs that left outlines of an "Angel" in the snow.😊😊😊

Soft, light snow still gives me joyful memories from childhood.💖💖❄💖💖

Beautiful Norway.

Winter and snow❄❄⛷❄⛷
Song by our superduper Wenche Myhre: World Cup skiing 1966

www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3MFAUGtrTY

Winter and snow
A boy stumbles off,
On tiny eager children's skis
Just wait once you'll stay,
He does not know that for a thousand years
Have ski tracks crossed our nature,
But make crosses over snow-covered ground,
It's first track.

Winter and snow
A skier rushes off,
On steep slopes so the snowdrop stands,
He takes care of our heritage.
For our skis have carried her husband
Just across the unknown land,
And pulled around the pole in the south and north
The first tracks.
Today, ski trails cross the world
And draws an open path
Between nations, so we meet
To the World Cup on skis.

Winter and snow
A ski jumper floats away,
In the jumping hill a cheer rises,
Along the trail, the buzz of excitement vibrates.
For ski trails captivate so many minds
And when they fade before the spring wind,
Then maybe it goes from brother to brother
A lasting trail.
Today, ski trails cross the world
And draws an open path
Between nations, so we meet
To the World Cup on skis.

Winter and snow
A ski jumper floats away,
In the jumping hill a cheer rises,
Along the trail, the buzz of excitement vibrates.
For ski trails captivate so many minds
And when they fade before the spring wind,
Then maybe it goes from brother to brother
A lasting trail.😊❄⛷

Last night I dreamed of the letter "H", three times.
The letter came as shadows in the snow with two parallel and one crossing line. On one walked a child in sunny yellow clothes, he was the Hope. On the other, a child walked in green and she was our Health. The third child crossed over and was the Healing.

The second time I saw the letter H, was with a "^" above. It was the roof that represented our House. In the house, I saw joy and laughter, unity and love, security and cooperation.

The last time I saw the "H", it was a carpenter working on the steps of a ladder. It looked like an H, and he placed two new steps above and two below the middle. I walked over to him and asked what he was going to use the ladder for. He smiled at me and said, it's the ladder of choice. You can determine your direction here; up or down, he said, pointing to the middle step.

I wish so much love, good health and security for everyone on our earth. I look forward to this year and must everything with positive signs follow you. Now I'm going to enjoy some hot chocolate.😊❄💖

No matter what part of the world you are in, regardless of skin colour, religion and culture, most societies will have their own holidays.❄

In Norway, Christmas is a highlight. Light and ornaments are hung up in windows, streets, buildings and where else we can light up in the winter darkness. No matter how much battery waste is used or how high the electricity costs are, Christmas should be lit up.😊

The traditions and purpose of Christmas have probably changed greatly over time. Originally, this was a celebration of Jesus' birth (Jesus of Nazareth). Today is probably more of a celebration of the trade stand's annual turnover of goods we buy. Actually, we Norwegians have more than enough.😉Nevertheless, between NOK 110-118 billion is spent. to buy something for each other at Christmas (In Norway we are 5.3 million people).😮

The message of Christmas is love and peace, but many starts the new year with an empty wallet and regret wasted money as a promissory note falls into the mailbox in the new year.

Each Norwegian spends on average more than NOK 11,000 on trade, which could keep many people alive.💖

If someone speaks negatively about this, it is unpopular. We are a rich nation, and we like our prosperity. Before, when many had poorer advice, people used to buy more useful things for Christmas. It could be clothes, instruments, books, shoes, hats, socks and scarves and so. Today, many children want technological things, and family members come together to buy a more expensive gift for a child. This does not mean that this is a wasteful gift, but we can afford to buy what we need, all year round. However, many also struggle here in Norway with poor finances. There have been bigger differences between us.🎁

When I was a child, the scent of Christmas enclosed us weeks before Christmas Eve, which here in Norway is celebrated on 24 December. Christmas music flowed from a cassette player, mom washed ceilings and walls, closets and floors while she hummed and sang. The green soap of pine needles mixed with the smell of home-baked cakes was in every room.🍰

Eventually, the Christmas tree came in, Santa dolls and Christmas decorations were displayed on bookshelves, in windows and in all rooms. Dad always dressed up as Santa, until the day I recognized his shoes.
Christmas Eve was magical, with lovely food, music and gifts. I was always happy, no matter what I got.🎅

Still, it was a gift that meant more to me than anything else at Christmas. That was when I looked out the windows early in the mornings, waited for days, looked out many times, looked up when I was outdoors. And finally, finally came the magic moment. Snowflakes that fell down and coloured the dark autumn/winter months white and light. I loved lying on my back in the snow, sticking my tongue out and catching the taste of snowflakes that melted and was gone for a moment …

I wish you all a beautiful December wherever you live.
I want to share this song, sung by Sissel Kyrkjebø:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4q7FM9laG8
Text:
It shines in silent villages
of fluttering lights tonight,
and thousands of children's hands
hold the lights towards heaven
He lay with hay for a pillow
and cried on his poor bed,
but the angels sang out there
on Bethlehem's empty meadow.

There they sang for the first time
at night over the city of David
which is always young and new …
