When this high altitude dry lakebed fills with a winter rain, the shallow water forms sheets of ice that move with the wind, dragging these "Sailing Stones" along the lake bottom. But why does this one have two tracks?

Backstory: I arrived at my planned position for shooting the night sky, but it was way before dusk; so I waited. I waited through the heat, and mosquito hour, and even a brief bit of rare desert rain. But if I hadn't been so early, I would have missed this gorgeous sunset over an unnamed Butte in central Utah.

“The sky grew darker, painted blue on blue, one stroke at a time, into deeper and deeper shades of night.”
― Haruki Murakami, Dance Dance Dance
BACKSTORY
We hiked for about a half hour straight into a fierce headwind just as the sun was setting. With sand and dust blowing into my eyes I considered turning back; after all, there was no way even my sturdy tripod could keep the camera still for the long exposures needed to capture a sharp dusk image. But I kept pushing forward.
We finally found the spot scouted by my friend Brad and started shooting. As predicted, I failed to get anything useful due to blurring effects of camera shake. Then, as twilight shifted to night, the wind just stopped. and I quickly captured this image just as the landscape caught the sunset’s final colors under a darkening cerulean sky.
Brad and I looked at each other. “I think the wind is over,” I said.
Seconds later it returned with renewed ferocity.
“Jeff, you ruined it!” yelled Brad over the howling gale.
I was flattered that Brad thought I had the power to Jinx the weather. I tried to convince him it was not my fault, but he wouldn’t hear it, or maybe couldn’t through the whistling roar.
