The ring doves love to stick in a pack and there's always a big crowd that turns up when the seed holders are filled up mid afternoon. Generally speaking they are a very civilised species, even queueing up for their turn.

It's not usual to see all the beautiful cherry-coloured beaks of the parakeets showing at once. Normally they have them stuck in the feeder ports intent on eating as much sunflower seed as possible. But sometimes, there is a lookout bird who sits at the top of the tree. When a cat appears in the vicinity, it squawks it's loud alarm call and all the feeding parakeets look around. That's the moment to snap the shot.

Continuing my fuzzy focus series, I'm always on the lookout for parakeets jostling and squabbling at the feeders as there are a lot of wing movements and fleeting photo opportunities.

It's always fun watching the parakeets when they come down to feed. There's always a bit of squabbling, squawking, flapping and jostling for the best positions on the bird feeders. Snapping them mid flight is one of my favourite pastimes.

They say that many of the blackbirds that come over to the South East of England in Winter are from Russia. I do hope that this one will stay in the Spring to sing to us his beautiful song. One might think that it was the snowfields of Siberia behind but it's just our neighbours' shed roof.
