The Apache railway switches their train in Holbrook, AZ at the interchange with BNSF on a beautiful October morning. We were super lucky to get an Apache run out in AZ, and hung around all day waiting for them to finish work and head back. It was a lovely break from orange bongas, and gave us some much needed variety.

Friday September 6 was oldies day on CSX's RF&P sub. Starting off the day was L134 bombing through Ashland with their geeps and a friendly wave from the engineer. After this, we would proceed to see 3 MACs and a YN2 leader on RF&P trains. It was exciting to come home from a day of no Gevos or AC44whateverwhatevers leading road trains on the mainline. Long live EMD.

On a beautiful september morning, CSX I135 crosses the Anacostia river at Banning draw. After seeing this pretty clean leader in Alexandria, and hearing them hold for a SB coal drag at RO, we hustled over to Benning for the nice side light.

Amtrak's auto train is the latest train in Virginia to fall victim to Siemens Chargers. On September 5th, engineer Bayne brought the venerable P40 set over Powell's Creek Virginia in gorgeous early morning lighting. This was one of the last runs of this set on the AT, as they were split up in Lorton yesterday morning with a future unknown.

I don't even know where to begin on what the past few months has been like living on the RF&P sub since cab signals were removed. The amount of correct leaders we have had has truly made my home rails fun again. On the morning of August 25, CSX I032 had a freshly painted SD70 on point as they made their way through Alexandria. The power, lighting and location (only 5 minutes up the road from my house) made this an easy choice to go out for. The past few weeks have truly been wild, as I've shot more MACs and YN2 leaders than I have bongas, which is certainly something to be celebrated. Long live cool shit on Class 1 railroads.
