I have found Northern Parulas in two areas while seeking out warblers on their nesting grounds. I found this guy singing at the top of a very tall dead tree. When I played his song, I came right down and perched in a bush right next to me. And then he left me and moved on with his.
This is my first shot and view of this warbler. In the second week of July, I drove down to Lake Hope State Park in southwestern Ohio and walked around the forest by myself until I found this bird. He breeds throughout the Southeast, so I had to find a few locations where these birds nest. Lake Hope turned out to be a bird rich area with several species. However, I only found this bird in one single spot--on a hillside with much brush and many trees.
I spent a five day weekend searching for the Connecticut Warbler at several hotspots across Michigan's Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin where this evasive bird had been spotted. I never found Mr. Connecticut.
But I did find this Yellow Warbler in a bog outside of Marquette, MI.
