A small Black and Grey Tern with a wingspan of approx. 20 inches. The under wings are a silvery color and the bird can appear to be black and white when in flight. I watched two pairs today and the males were actively courting the females...fascinating behavior so more shots to come on that ...

Here is one of the males and the grey plumage sometimes has a very silvery color to it. Here he's doing a partial wing stretch

The males bring fish to the females as part of the courtship prior to the mating act. There is a lot of calling as he approaches her with the gift. and Its likely a test to ensure he is a good provider.
