A couple of years ago I followed about a dozen Bohemian Waxwings one day at Petrie Island. They were foraging on the forest floor in the dead leaves...a protein hunt I guess. I had never seen them on the ground before unless it was to drink, bathe, eat snow or pick up a berry so it was pretty cool to observe this species looking for something other than berries to eat. Every once in a while one or two would take an eye level perch just to see what I was doing or just before moving on to the next spot to continue their hunt.
