A Great Horned Owlet just seconds after its failed attempt to jump back to the nest ( about 8 feet)t where its mother had brought it a Muskrat. The owlet missed the nest and fell to the base of the tree where it stayed for about 20 minutes. A very scary ordeeal for the tike as it had spiraled down about 50 feet to the ground, breaking a few twigs on the way. It then started the long process of finding a way back to the heights. On day 2 it was approx 20 feet off the ground and had been soaked several times by the rains...its not going to be easy.... Canon 7D and 500F4 Ottawa ON

This valiant owlet used her beak, wings and talons in an attempt to do a vertical scale of this tree.No Kidding! She got to between 7 and 9 feet before she stopped to focus on her exit strategy. Gravity won.... this time.....Canon 7D and 500F4 Ottawa ON
