At the end of last year The Netherlands was all about flooding and high tide in her rivers. My hometown Deventer was on the news every other day. "Will the center of the town inundate?" That was the question. Well, it didn't.
But in the Lebuinus-church there was -as you can see here- water in the crypt. Not by inundating, but because there is an open connection between the river and the church. In the crypt there is a well, and thus it was possible for the river-water to get inside the church. Creating this beautiful reflection.
Only when there is serious high tide in the river IJssel this phenomenon happens.
I shared this image on Instagram and a journalist noticed it and publicized it with an interesting story in a national newspaper.
Enjoy!

The Hemsterhuis Bridge is a monumental cast iron bridge from 1885. The bridge used to be able to be opened, but the bridge was fixed in the 1960s. During the renovation, the bridge was restored to its former glory and made rotatable again. The bridge keeper's house that stood next to the Hemsterhuis Bridge until just before the Second World War has also been recreated and returned to its old location. This house contains the technical installation and the control panel of the bridge.....
