A pair of these ground squirrels came out of hibernation this week. I was actually surprised to see any of these show up this spring since the family that had been living in my back yard for the last few years, didn't survive a flooding rain we had gotten last July. This new couple looks to have come from the field next to my house and have been running back and forth for food. Photo was taken through my patio window....this one is of the male; the female is looking very large and pregnant so it will be fun to see some little ones scurrying around soon.
