Moraine Lake at sunset. On Canada day there was no better place to watch the sun setting then at Moraine Lake. The colour of the lake with the peaks at the back illuminated make it such a stunning destination. The short walk up the hill the lookout is nothing strenuous. There is a lot of space at the lookouts to find your perfect spot. I preferred the lower area as it was always a lot less crowded and left a nice open view of the lake. Although it was a windy day, the breeze stopped enough at this moment for a nice reflection in water.

Sunrise at Lake Peyto in the Canadian Rockies. The sun had just begun to hit the peaks and fortunately the breeze that had cut through the reflection had also just stopped. Unlike Lake Louise or Moraine you will virtually be alone at Peyto of a morning. The blue is something you have to see to believe, particularly during the middle of the day. Such a peaceful spot, worth the early morning drive out, even if the sunrise ends up cloudless. The perfect beginning to a day exploring the Canadian Rockies.

Morning light at Lake Louise. There was a real calmness with the weather, which quickly developed into a summer storm. The glacier at the back with the emerald water makes Louise a special place. However, early morning or lake afternoon is the only time to really enjoy it in the summer time though with the crowds.

Lake Moraine in Canada at Dawn. The beauty of Moraine is hard to describe until you see it. I had been the previous afternoon and there were people everywhere. In the morning however there was virtually no one at this time and there was a real calmness compared to the previous day that also had high winds. It is a 20-25 minute drive from Lake Louise and a 5-10 minute walk up hill to the top of the rock pile, but it is worth the effort of getting up early to be here before sunrise.

Lake Louise just after sunrise. This was shot on Canada day quickly in between people in bear costumes in canoes going across the lake. Certainly one of the more unique mornings of photography.
