On the same wet morning that I photographed the Hoary Marmot (see post from 2 days ago), I spent significant time with the wildflowers. At subalpine levels, they were at their peak. This is Spreading Phlox, a native species that grows from BC to the American southwest, and as far east as the Dakotas.

Fog drifted across the subalpine meadows, everything was wet, and I loved the light. The macro lens and tripod combination allowed me to stop down for maximum depth of field - when appropriate - and I worked nonstop until the morning sun finally burned through the cloud cover. After that, the meadows lost their moisture and their magic.

Lens data doesn't show because I was using an ancient Nikon manual focus 105mm macro.
