On days like this you can almost drink the light. Gary, on his epic 6,000 mile round trip, has reached the northern extent of his travels: the Frenchman River Valley in Grasslands. A small herd of Mule Deer were moving up the slope in the middle distance, barely visible here. But this shot is about shadows and light. When the light is this rich, it hardly matters what the subject is. This is light you wish would last forever... but of course nothing ever does, and that it is fleeting just makes it sweeter.
Now, almost two weeks later, we've had a surprising amount of rain, which hasn't been great for the friends from BC currently visiting. But the farmers are happy (or as happy as farmers get), and the birds are happy. And I'm expecting an extraordinary wildflower bloom as a result, in the weeks to come.
