Common Yellowthroat (Male) @ Big Lake Interpretive Trail.

This particular individual had me bouncing along the trail one morning to 'catch' him. Like a masked bandit, he concealed himself among the vegetation and I was not able to get a clear shot of him.. I was just about to give up when he suddenly appeared in the open and sat for a few seconds on a good perch. I was lucky the time and light were just adequate and I finally got a quick series of images of him looking about.

It was a challenge to get a clear view of this handsome individual as it moved about in the branches looking for food. I was lucky that it finally sat briefly on a good perch with an insect prey in its beak.

Nikon D500 w/500mmf4G shot wide open; -1/3EV; 1/200; ISO1000

This beautiful individual hardly sat still in front of the camera. After an interminable wait, I finally managed to take a few shots of her when she appeared briefly on a good perch in the open.

An energetic Orange-crowned Warbler showed off its insect prize early in the morning. The warblers are eating constantly to accumulate fat and energy for their long migration south.

500mm f4G wide open.
