Greater White-fronted Geese migrate north in spring to nest in Alaska and the Arctic Tundra. In the fall, they migrate south to their wintering grounds in the Gulf of Mexico and California. Large flocks often gather in our region on a feeding stopover before heading south.

Whiffling
We all have seen this aerial maneuver being executed so effortlessly by the birds such as ducks and geese.
Whiffling helps the birds to rapidly descend to a landing area.
What appeals most to my wonder is the way the bird is able to keep its head horizontal to the ground - and stay focused on navigating - while its body is upside down, as seen in this picture.
