Flashing its tail nervously, this secretive Sora picked its way cautiously up the path. I caught its profile when it turned its head towards the lens for one last look.

I spotted this adult Sora at fairly close range. It was constantly moving and the setting was too congested to frame the kind of pictures I like. I was glad it finally ventured out of the reeds and into the view of my camera. And when it stopped for a brief instant to preen and stretch, I was ready with the camera settings and took advantage of the opportunity. But as soon as it heard the shutter, it was gone again.

A bonus appearance of a young Sora Rail at the Boardwalk. The Rails are very shy and usually conceal themselves among tall grass and reeds. I was fortunate to see this tiny fellow and managed to take a few shots before it slipped out of sight in the reeds.

The elusive Sora normally conceals itself and skulks around in the tall reeds. I was lucky this individual ventured out of the cattails into the clear view of my camera. It stopped for a brief instant and seemed to have eyed up something interesting and I managed to come away with a few shots.

Soon after it has been spotted at the local marsh, the Virginia Rail has to be one of the most sought after birds, by bird watchers and photographers in our city. Indeed, it has been on my wish list but it is not until last week that I finally got a few shots of this elusive rail.
