While photographing the shorebirds on a local pond in May, I noticed a large flock of Franklin's Gulls coming in for a landing.

The Franklin's Gulls are long-distance migrants. In spring, they leave their homes in southern and central South America and head north to their breeding grounds in the prairie sloughs and reedy marshes in the central provinces of Canada and northern United States.
