I suppose all of my Iowa Flickr friends who have visited Thomas Mitchel County (Polk) Park have either taken a photograph this spot or thought about it. I was in the "thought about it" camp until last week. 😀

After the controversy generated by the Made in Heaven works, Koons returned to critics and audiences with one of his most iconic and beloved works, Puppy. This gigantic flowery puppy of the West Highland White Terrier breed was temporarily installed in 1992 in the main courtyard of the baroque castle of Waldeck, located in the German town of Bad Arolsen, near Kassel, where Documenta IX was then held. This first version, which measured 11 meters high, was made of wood and then dismantled once the project was completed. Then, Koons created a new version with a steel structure, which was purchased in 1997 for the Own Collection of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and installed, definitively this time, in front of the museum building, in September of the same year, for its inauguration .

Après la controverse générée par les œuvres de Made in Heaven, Koons revint vers la critique et le public avec une de ses œuvres les plus emblématiques et appréciées, Puppy. Ce gigantesque chiot fleuri de race West Highland White Terrier fut temporairement installé en 1992 dans la cour d’honneur du château baroque de Waldeck, situé dans la ville allemande de Bad Arolsen, près de Kassel, où se tenait alors la Documenta IX. Cette première version, qui mesurait 11 mètres de hauteur, fut réalisée en bois puis démontée une fois le projet terminé.
