I got selected to go into the Wave on April 1, 2016. It is an easy 3-mile hike in the early light before dawn. I returned to my car shortly after darkness fell. A fabulous Day! Four Yongnuo Speedlites YN560 IV were used with a Yongnuo radio controller. One flash slightly below the bird, another above and angled down, a third from behind to backlight the bird, and a fourth on the painted background. John has taught hundreds of people how to make images like this one at his hummingbird photo workshops in British Columbia where swarms of hummingbirds converge at the Bull River Guest Ranch near Cranbrook.
